Diese ÖNORM enthält Planungsgrundlagen und Richtlinien für die temporäre Lagerung von flüssigen radioaktiven Abfällen in Abklinganlagen. In der Regel werden die in den Abklingtanks gelagerten flüssigen radioaktiven Stoffe nach Unterschreiten eines bestimmten Aktivitätswertes in die Umwelt (Kanalsystem oder Vorfluter) abgeleitet. Gemäß § 74 der Allgemeinen Strahlenschutzverordnung hat die zuständige Behörde unter konservativen Annahmen Ableitungsgrenzwerte festzulegen, wobei als Kriterium gilt, dass die jährliche Exposition von Einzelpersonen der Bevölkerung durch flüssige und gasförmige Ableitungen eine effektive Dosis von 0,3 mSv nicht überschreiten darf.
