Diese ÖNORM ist auf einzeln stehende Naß- und Trockenkühltürme in Naturzugbauweise oder mit Hilfsbelüftung durch Ventilatoren sowie auch auf Kühlturmanlagen, die aus einzelnen Zellen zu großflächigen Baueinheiten aufgebaut sind, anzuwenden. Diese ÖNORM schafft gemeinsam mit der ÖNORM EN ISO 3746 bzw. ÖNORM EN ISO 3744 die Voraussetzung dafür, dass die von Kühltürmen unmittelbar an die umgebende Luft abgestrahlten Geräusche (Geräuschemissionen) nach einheitlichen Verfahren ermittelt werden können, sodass die Ergebnisse vergleichbar sind.
