Diese ÖNORM ist für die Abnahmeprüfung an analogen, d. h. konventionellen Mammographiesystemen (Film-Folien-Mammographie, FFM), digitalen Mammographiesystemen (Full-Field-Digital-Mammography, FFDM) anzuwenden. Sie gilt nicht für digitale Mammogramme, die ursprünglich mit Film-Folien-Systemen erstellt und nachträglich digitalisiert wurden, mammographische Stereotaxie-Einrichtungen und spezielles Zubehör für Biopsie. Alternative Prüfverfahren dürfen angewandt werden, wenn nachgewiesen wird, dass damit eine gleiche oder bessere Sensitivität gegenüber möglichen Veränderungen an der Mammographie-Einrichtung sichergestellt ist (zB nach Mammographie Screening Richtlinien nach EUREF).
