Radon und seine Folgeprodukte in Gebäuden stellen ein Gesundheitsrisiko für die Bevölkerung dar. Umfassende Untersuchungen in Österreich ergaben einen Mittelwert für Radon in Innenräumen von 100 Bq/mł. Die Inhalation von Radon verursacht ungefähr 40 % der gesamten Effektivdosis, die der Mensch aus der Summe der Expositionen von allen natürlichen und künstlichen Strahlenquellen erhält. Vor diesem Hintergrund beschreibt diese ÖNORM Abwicklung von Sanierungsmaßnahmen zur Reduktion der Radonkonzentration in Gebäuden (Radondiagnose, mögliche Sanierungsmaßnahmen, Überprüfung der Wirksamkeit der Sanierungsmaßnahmen), insbesondere dann, wenn Referenzwerte überschritten werden.
