Diese Norm gilt für Laubschnitthölzer für Bauteile, die nach der Tragfähigkeit zu bemessen sind. Sie legt Sortiermerkmale und -klassen als Voraussetzung für die Festlegung und Anwendung von Rechenwerten für die Nachweise der Grenzzustände der Tragfähigkeit und Gebrauchstauglichkeit nach z. B. DIN 1052 oder DIN 1074 fest. Nach zwei Verfahren kann sortiert werden: o) visuell in Sortierklassen; o) maschinell in Festigkeitsklassen; Diese Norm erfüllt die Mindestanforderungen der DIN EN 14081-1. Für bestimmte Verwendungszwecke des Holzes gelten spezielle Normen bezüglich der Sortierung nach der Tragfähigkeit: DIN 68362 und DIN EN 131-2 für Holzleitern, DIN 15147 für Flachpaletten.
