Diese ÖNORM beschreibt die Bestimmung des Gesamtgehaltes an Polyethylenglykol in aromatischen und aliphatischen nichtionischen Tensiden des Typs R-(O-C2H4)p-OH, wobei p den mittleren Ethylenoxid-Wert (EO) darstellt, der zu bestimmen ist, wenn diese Substanzen in Mengen von nicht weniger als 0,1 % (m/m) vorhanden sind. Das Verfahren erfaßt alle Polyethylenglycole ab Diethylenglycol. Monomeres Ethylenglycol ist nicht bestimmbar. Das Verfahren ist anwendbar auf Produkte, die bis zu 25 Ethylenoxid-Gruppen enthalten und die in einer Mischung von 80:20 (v/v) Methanol und Wasser löslich sind. Langkettige Produkte mit einem niedrigen Ethoxylierungsgrad, wie zB Talgalkohol + 5 EO, sind nicht löslich und bedürfen einer geänderten Vorbehandlung.
