Diese ÖNORM gibt eine Anleitung zur Bewertung und Auswahl von Verfahren zur Abfallbehandlung zur Sicherstellung der Sicherheit von Personen und der Umwelt. Sie ist auf Abfälle und Stoffströme (fest, flüssig und gasförmig) anzuwenden, die als Abprodukte von biotechnischen Prozessen emittiert werden. Die Prozesse umfassen traditionelle Verfahren, wie Bierbrauen oder Lebensmittelverarbeitung, Fermentation von pharmazeutischen und chemischen Produkten sowie biotechnische Verfahren für Anwendungen in der Umwelt und Landwirtschaft. Sie ist nicht auf Abfälle aus Krankenhäusern und die Behandlung von gefährlichen chemischen und physikalischen Abfällen anzuwenden. Sie gilt nur so lange, bis Luft, Wasser oder fester Abfall für die sichere Überführung in übliche industrielle und kommunale Anlagen zur Behandlung von Abfällen vorbereitet sind.
