Diese Europäische Norm legt die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für Klettergriffe fest. Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Klettergriffe, die für das natürliche Vorankommen von Kletterern, d. h. ohne den Gebrauch künstlicher Hilfsmittel (z. B. Eispickel, Steigeisen, Haken, Klemmkeile) an künstlichen Kletteranlagen (KKA) und Boulderwänden verwendet werden. Klettergriffe sind zum Befestigen an KKA mit Bolzen, Schrauben usw. konstruiert. Zu den Klettergriffen gehören große Volumen oder Strukturen, die für den Gebrauch ohne zusätzlich daran befestigte Klettergriffe ausgeführt sind. Die Hauptbefestigungspunkte für Klettergriffe sind Teil der KKA-Anordnung und werden in EN 12572-1 und EN 12572-2 behandelt. Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Eisklettern, "Drytooling" (Eisklettern an künstlichen Wänden) und Spielplatzgeräte.
