Dieses Dokument legt die Anforderungen an die Ultraschallprüfung von Stahlgussstücken (mit ferritischem Gefüge) für allgemeine Verwendung und die Verfahren zur Bestimmung innerer Ungänzen mit der Impuls-Echo-Technik fest. Dieses Dokument ist anwendbar für die Ultraschallprüfung von Stahlgussstücken, die üblicherweise kornfeinend wärmebehandelt worden sind und die eine Wanddicke bis einschließlich 600 mm haben. Für größere Wanddicken werden hinsichtlich der Prüfdurchführung und der Registriergrenzen besondere Vereinbarungen getroffen. Dieses Dokument ist nicht anwendbar für austenitische Stähle und Verbindungsschweißungen. Für hoch beanspruchte Bauteile ist EN 12680 2 anwendbar.
