Diese ÖNORM enthält Anleitungen für den Ablauf der Erarbeitung einer validen Probenahmestrategie, um damit die Zielsetzung einer Überwachungsstrategie für in die Umwelt freigesetzte gentechnisch veränderte Mikroorganismen zu erfüllen. Da bei allen Verfahren zur Überwachung von Mikroorganismen in Proben aus der Umwelt üblicherweise eine Vorbehandlung der Proben erforderlich ist, z.B. die Extraktion und Isolierung der gentechnisch veränderten Viren und/oder deren Nukleinsäure, wurde diese in den Anwendungsbereich der ÖNORM einbezogen.
