Diese Europäische Norm legt Produktanforderungen, Verfahren zum Entwurf, zur Konstruktion und Bemessung sowie Versuche für Schutzdächer für Arbeitsgerüste fest, um Arbeiter sowie andere Personen vor eventuell herabfallenden Gegenständen zu schützen. Die Europäische Norm gilt nur für Schutzdächer an Gerüsten, die als Arbeitsplatz verwendet werden. Schutzdächer, die an anderen Konstruktionen als an Arbeitsgerüsten nach EN 12811-1 angebracht werden, gehören nicht zum Anwendungsbereich dieser Europäischen Norm. Diese Europäische Norm gilt nur für Schutzdachsysteme, auf die Bauschutt aus 24 m oder weniger Höhe fallen könnte. Diese Europäische Norm stellt die Widerstandsfähigkeit von Schutzdächern für die meisten herabfallenden Gegenstände bei einer Aufschlagenergie von nicht mehr als 720 J sicher.
