Diese Europäische Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) oder Vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol) in Lebensmitteln mit Hochleistungs-Flüssigchromatographie (HPLC) fest. Vitamin D3 kommt hauptsächlich in tierischen Lebensmitteln vor, während Vitamin D2 hauptsächlich in wilden Pilzen nachgewiesen wird. Beide Vitamine D2 und D3 können in angereicherten Lebensmitteln vorkommen. Diese Europäische Norm ist nicht auf Lebensmittel anwendbar, die gleichzeitig Vitamin D2 und Vitamin D3 enthalten. Neben der Vitamin-D-Aktivität von Vitamin D2 und D3 tragen auch die entsprechenden Metabolite 25-Hydroxy- Vitamin D und 1,25-Dihydroxy-Vitamin D zur Vitamin D-Aktivität bei. Diese Europäische Norm deckt nur die Messung von Vitamin D2 oder Vitamin D3 ab. Diese Europäische Norm bietet die Basis für analytische Vorgehensweisen. Sie dient als Rahmen für den Analytiker, sein eigenes analytisches Verfahren in Übereinstimmung mit dieser Norm zu definieren. Das Verfahren wurde in einem Ringversuch an angereicherten und naturbelassenen Proben wie Margarine, Milch, Milchpulver, flüssige Säuglingsnahrung, Säuglingsnahrung (Pulver), Speiseöl und Fischöl im Ringversuch gestestet, wobei Proben im Bereich von 0,4 μg/100 g bis 14 μg/100 g eingesetzt wurden.
