Diese Norm beschreibt die Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Strömung durch Lecks in der Umwandlung eines abgeschlossenen Prüfobjekts, das einem Druckgefälle ausgesetzt ist. Die Verfahren beruhen auf der Auswertung der Änderung des Gasmasse innerhalb des Prüfobjekts. Die Zustandsgleichung für ideale Gase gibt das Verhältnis zwischen Masse, Druck, Temperatur und Volumen des Gases an, das im freien Innenvolumen des Prüfobjekts enthalten ist. Unter bestimmten Umständen dürfen eine oder mehrere Variable als konstant angenommen werden, und damit kann die Masseänderung zum Beispiel durch Kontrolle der Druckänderung oder der Druck-Temperatur-Änderung innerhalb des Prüfobjekts beurteilt werden.
