Die Norm legt ein manuelles Referenzverfahren fest, daß zur Bestimmung der Quecksilber-Massenkonzentration in Abgasen aus Kaminen oder Schornsteinen dient. Der Bereich für die Quecksilberkonzentration, für den das Verfahren geeignet ist, erstreckt sich von 0,001 mg/m3 bis 0,5 mg/m3. Die Festlegungen wurden validiert für die Bestimmung der Gesamtquecksilber-Massenkonzentration in Abgasen von Abfallverbrennungsanlagen.
