Festgelegt werden die allgemeinen Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren hinsichtlich Unschädlichkeit, Ergonomie, Reinigung, Befestigung, Schutzbereich, Stoßdämpfung sowie Bestimmungen zu Kennzeichnung und Informationen des Herstellers für Schutzausrüstungen, die beim Kampfsport benützt werden. Die Schutzausrüstungen, die in dieser Europäischen Norm behandelt werden, sind hauptsächlich für die Benutzung bei unbewaffneten Kampfsportarten, wie Taekwondo, Karate, Kick-Boxing und ähnlichen Disziplinen vorgesehen. Zusätzliche Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für Schutzausrüstungen für besondere Kampfsportarten werden in weiteren Teilen der EN 13277 festgelegt.
