Die vorliegende Norm legt die Klassifizierung, chemische Zusammensetzungen, die Kennzeichnung sowie weitere Anforderungen für Sekundärzink fest. Diese Zinksorten werden überwiegend für das Feuerverzinken nach prEN ISO 1461 und die Herstellung von Kupfer-Zink-Legierungen verwendet. Sekundärzink kann durch verschiedene Verfahren erzeugt werden, die sich je nach Herkunft des Werkstoffs unterscheiden. Der überwiegende Teil wird durch Recycling aus gebrauchtem Zinkwerkstoff und Schrott, z. B. Zinkblech, hergestellt. Sekundärzink kann auch aus Rückständen der Zinkverarbeitung, z. B. Zinkasche, hergestellt werden.
