Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt Prüfverfahren zur Bestimmung der Maße aller Arten von Matratzen, Bettrahmen, Polsterliegen und Bettboden fur Erwachsenen-Betten. Sie gilt jedoch nicht für Luftmatratzen und Wasserbetten oder Auflagen. die auf die Hauptmatratze aufgelegt werden. Die Norm enthält ferner Toleranzempfehlungen, die auf die jeweiligen Nennmaße bezogen sind, so dass die verschiedenen Bett-Einzelteile beim Zusammenbau einwandfrei zusammenpassen. Fur Etagenbetten und Einzelbetten, deren Liegefläche 800 mm oder höher über dem Fußboden liegt, gelten spezielle Anforderungen (EN 747-1).
