Diese Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des "Stickstoffs nach Kjeldahl" in Schlamm und Schlammprodukten fest. Der Aufschluss wird durch Selen oder Kupfer katalysiert; durch eine hohe Konzentration an Natriumsulfat wird die Aufschlusstemperatur erhöht. Obwohl zur Analyse üblicherweise Nassproben entnommen werden, ist es anerkannte Praxis, die Ergebnisse auf Trockenmasse bezogen anzugeben. Demzufolge muss ebenfalls der Trockenmasseanteil der zur Analyse verwendeten homogenisierten Probe bestimmt werden.
