Der Wassergehalt von Düngemitteln hat bedeutende Auswirkungen auf deren Qualität und besonders auf deren Lagerungs- und Handhabungseigenschaften. Diese Norm legt ein Verfahren für die maßanalytische Bestimmung des Wassergehaltes von Düngemitteln fest, das auf der Anwendung eines Karl-Fischer-Reagens beruht. Das Verfahren gilt für alle mineralischen Düngemittel. Das Ergebnis (KFM-Wasser) schließt "freies" Wasser und einen Anteil des strukturell gebundenen Wassers, d. h. Kristalwasser, ein und wird als gültig betrachtet, wenn es innerhalb des Bereiches von 0,1 % bis 5 % (Massenanteil) vom geprüften Material liegt.
