Dieser Teil der Normenreihe EN 13523 legt die Grundsätze und das Verfahren zum Bestimmen der Beständigkeit einer organischen Beschichtung auf einem metallischen Substrat (Bandbeschichtung) gegen eine Kombination von UV-Strahlung, Kondensation von Wasser und Temperatur unter geregelten Bedingungen fest. Wegen der veränderlichen Bedingungen bei der Freibewitterung und der extremen Art der beschleunigten Prüfung kann eine Korrelation zwischen diesen beiden nicht erwartet werden. Nicht alle organischen Beschichtungen verhalten sich gleichartig, doch ein gewisser Grad von Korrelation bei Beschichtungen desselben Grundtyps ist möglich.
