Der vorliegende Teil der Norm legt Anforderungen für Strangpresserzeugnisse (Stangen, Rohre, Profile) fest, die zu den tragenden Eigenschaften des Wagenkastens und anderen wichtigen tragenden Komponenten maßgeblich beitragen. Die in dieser Norm festgelegten Anforderungen an Schweißverbindungen gelten nicht für geschweißte Baugruppen und Bauuntergruppen, da sie nur zur Qualifizierung der Werkstoffe festgelegt sind. Es werden besondere Anforderungen an Eignung, Qualitätsprüfung, Werkstoffeigenschaften und Maßtoleranzen festgelegt. Ausserdem werden Leitlinien für Anwendung und Gebrauch angegeben.
