Dieses Dokument legt die Mindestanforderungen für Auslegung und Bau von metallischen Drucktanks für die Beförderung gefährlicher Güter auf der Straße, mit der Eisenbahn und mit Seeschiffen fest. Dieses Dokument enthält Anforderungen an Öffnungen, Verschlüsse und die bauliche Ausrüstung; Anforderungen an die Bedienungsausrüstung werden nicht behandelt. Für Tanks für die Beförderung von tiefkalten Flüssigkeiten gelten EN 13530-1 und EN 13530-2. Dieses Dokument ist auch anwendbar für verflüssigte Gase einschließlich Flüssiggas (en: liquified petroleum gas, LPG); für eine dezidierte LPG-Norm siehe jedoch EN 12493.
