Die in dieser Norm festgelegten Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren gelten für Heizöle aus Steinkohlenteer. Sie sind auch anwendbar für Schieferöl, mineralölstämmige Aromatenfraktionen sowie Braunkohlenteer. Zum Transport, zur Lagerung und zur Verbrennung dieser Öle kann eine Vorwärmung erforderlich sein. Das Mischen mit Heizölen aus anderen Rohstoffen sollte vermieden werden. Diese Norm gilt nicht für Brennstoffe für die Schifffahrt.
