Diese Europäische Norm enthält ein Glossar bevorzugter Begriffe, die sich allgemein auf „Verpackung“ beziehen. Jeder Benennung ist eine Definition beigegeben. Anhang A (informativ) bezeichnet und erklärt zwölf grundlegende Verpackungsbegriffe, die Inhalt der Richtlinie der Europäischen Gemeinschaft über Verpackungen und Verpackungsabfälle sind und die in dieser Richtlinie auch definiert wurden. Die Norm enthält auch einen Begriff aus der Entscheidung der Kommission zur Festlegung eines Kennzeichnungssystems für Verpackungsmaterialien. Anhang B (informativ) bietet eine Liste gleichbedeutender Begriffe in den drei offiziellen CEN-Sprachen.
