Diese Europäische Norm legt das Verfahren zur Durchführung einer Schallemissions-prüfung (AT; en: Acoustic Emission Testing) an metallischen Druckgeräten während der Druck-Abnahmeprüfung unter Anwendung der planaren Ortung fest. Diese Norm ist auch für nachfolgende Prüfungen zur Requalifizierung anwendbar. Allgemeine Grundlagen der Schallemission sind in EN 13554 beschrieben. Das Ziel der Schallemissionsprüfung ist eine 100-%-Volumenprüfung, um jene Regionen im Bauteil zu bestimmen, die, akustisch aktiv, Schallemissionen vom Burst-Typ erzeugen, z. B. als Folge des Wachstums von subkritischen Inhomogenitäten, was die Zuverlässigkeit der Abnahmeprüfung erhöht. Die Prüfung liefert Referenzdaten für den Vergleich mit den Ergebnissen späterer Prüfungen.
