Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen hinsichtlich der Konstruktion und der Betriebsart sowie entsprechende Prüfverfahren an automatische, mit Salz regenerierte und nach dem Prinzip des Kationaustausches wirkende Enthärter für Trinkwasser-Installationen in Gebäuden, die dauerhaft an die Wasserversorgung angeschlossen sind, fest. Bis das EAS-System in Kraft tritt, haben die derzeitigen nationalen Bestimmungen weiterhin Bestand. Der normative Anhang A "Einbau, Betrieb und Wartung" wurde hinzugefügt.
