Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Natriumchlorat zur Aufbereitung von Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch. Sie beschreibt die Eigenschaften von Natriumchlorat und legt die Anforderungen sowie die entsprechenden Prüfverfahren für Natriumchlorat fest. Sie enthält Angaben zu dessen Anwendung in der Wasseraufbereitung. Sie legt darüber hinaus Regeln für die sichere Handhabung und Verwendung von Natriumchlorat fest (siehe Anhang B) und gibt Hinweise zu umwelt-, gesundheits- und sicherheitsrelevanten Vorsichtsmaßnahmen in chemischen Laboren (siehe Anhang C).
