Diese Europäische Norm betrifft die Funktionen, die mit allgemeinen Schienenfahrzeugen oder ihren Baugruppen in Zusammenhang stehen. Es wird die Funktionalität in Bezug auf Systeme und Ausrüstungs-gegenstände wie Radsätze, Drehgestelle, Türen, Bremsen und Antrieb abgedeckt. Diese Norm gilt auch für Sonderfahrzeuge wie Baumaschinen und Schneepflüge. Während jedoch die für übliche Schienenfahrzeuge ebenfalls geltenden Funktionen enthalten sind, sind spezielle nur auf bestimmte Einsatzprozesse bezogene Funktionen in dieser Norm nicht inbegriffen.
