Diese Europäische Norm ist anwendbar für Langwegabsorptionsmessungen mit offener Messstrecke zur Ermittlung des Produkts "Konzentration x Weglänge" durch Anwendung der Fourier-Transform-Infrarot-Technik (FTIR) mit einer künstlichen Strahlungsquelle. Die Norm ist anwendbar für die Messung von infrarotaktiven organischen und anorganischen Verbindungen in gasförmigem Zustand in atmosphärischer Luft über feste troposphärische offene Messstrecken bis zu einer Länge von ungefähr 1 km. Langwegmesssysteme liefern einen räumlichen Mittelwert für die Konzentrationen der Messkomponenten, auch als kontinuierliche Zeitreihe.
