Das Verfahren basiert auf dem gaschromatographischen (GC) Nachweis strahleninduzierter Kohlenwasserstoffe (KW). Es wurde in Ringversuchen erfolgreich an rohem Hähnchen-, Schweine- und Rindfleisch geprüft wie auch an Camembert, Avocado, Papaya und Mango. Andere Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass das Verfahren für viele andere Lebensmittel anwendbar ist.
