Diese ÖNORM gibt Anleitungen zur Kontrolle von eingehenden Rohstoffen, die in biotechnologischen Verfahren verwendet werden. Sie ist für alle Stoffe anwendbar, die bei der Herstellung von Produkten mit Hilfe biotechnologischer Verfahren eingesetzt werden. Sie ist nicht für Geräte und Ausrüstungen anwendbar. In dieser ÖNORM wird hauptsächlich die Produktqualität behandelt, da der eingesetzte Rohstoff üblicherweise nicht die Sicherheitsstufe oder die Sicherheitsmaßnahmen des Fermentationsverfahrens ändert. Zur Vermeidung aller potentiellen Gefahren sollte vom Anwender nachgewiesen werden, daß ein Rohstoff für das Produktionsverfahren geeignet ist. Weiters sollte nachgewiesen werden, daß von dem Rohstoff während des Verfahrens oder als Ergebnis seiner Modifikation im Verfahren keine Gefahren für die Gesundheit und die Umwelt ausgehen.
