Diese Europäische Norm legt Leistungsanforderungen, Prüfverfahren und Anforderungen an die Kennzeichnung für Halbmasken (wiederverwendbar) ohne Einatemventile und mit trennbaren Filtern (bestimmt zum Gebrauch maximal während einer Schicht) zum Schutz gegen Gase oder Gase und Partikeln oder nur Partikeln fest. Diese Norm gilt nicht für Geräte, die zum Einsatz bei gegebenem oder möglichem Sauerstoff-Mangel (weniger als 17 Vol.-% Sauerstoff) bestimmt sind. Sie gilt auch nicht für Fluchtgeräte.
