Die ÖNORM EN 1998-6 ist in Österreich nur zusammen mit dem nationalen Anhang ÖNORM B 1998-6 (in Vorbereitung) anzuwenden. Diese ÖNORM legt Anforderungen, Kriterien und Regeln für die Auslegung hoher schlanker Bauwerke fest, wie Türme, einschließlich Glockentürme, Einlasstürme, Rundfunk- und Fernsehtürme, Masten, Industrieschornsteine und Leuchttürme. In den Abschnitten 5 und 6 werden zusätzliche Anforderungen jeweils für Stahlbeton- und für Stahlschornsteine gegeben. In den Abschnitten 7 und 8 werden zusätzliche Anforderungen jeweils für Stahlmaste und abgespannte Stahlmaste gegeben. Es werden auch Anforderungen für nicht tragende Bauteile wie Auskleidungswerkstoffe für Industrieschornsteine, Antennen und andere Vorrichtungen angegeben. Die vorliegenden Anforderungen gelten nicht für Kühltürme und Offshore - Konstruktionen. Für Türme als Unterstützungskontruktionen von Behältern gilt ÖNORM EN 1998-4.
