Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen an die Ultraschallprüfung von Rohren aus metallischen Werkstoffen mit einem Außendurchmesser größer gleich 5 mm fest. In anderen Fällen kann diese Norm nach Absprache zwischen Hersteller und Käufer verwendet werden. Die Ultraschallprüfung dient dazu, Fehler innerhalb der Wanddicke und an den Außen- und Innenflächen der Rohre zu erkennen. Mit dem Verfahren werden zweidimensionale Fehler in Längsrichtung und in Richtung des Umfangs senkrecht zur Rohrwandung erkannt. Wenn eine Prüfung auf andere Fehler erfolgen soll, sollten diese Anforderungen in der Auftragsdokumentation festgehalten werden.
