Diese Europäische Norm legt die Anforderungen, die Bedingungen für die Qualifikation, Abnahme und Quali-tätssicherung von elektrischen und optischen Rechteckteckverbindern mit einzelnen oder mehreren lös-baren rechteckigen Einsätzen zur Herstellung elektrischer Kontakte bei einer Dauerbetriebstemperatur von -65 °C bis 175 °C fest. Diese Familie von Steckverbindern ist besonders für den Einsatz in der Luftfahrt unter rauen Umgebungsbe-dingungen an Bord von Luftfahrzeugen nach EN 2282 geeignet. Einsätze für LWL-Kontakte oder die Mischung von LWL- und elektrischen Kontakten sind in EN 4639-002 beschrieben.
