Diese Norm legt ein europäisches Bezeichnungssystem für Aluminium und Aluminium-Knetlegierungen auf der Grundlage eines internationalen Bezeichnungssystems fest sowie die Verfahrensweise zur Erlangung dieser internationalen Bezeichnung. Es entspricht der von der Aluminium Association, USA, herausgegebenen Empfehlung vom 15. Dezember 1970, in der überarbeiteten Fassung vom März 2002, für ein internationales Bezeichnungssystem für Aluminium und Aluminium-Knetlegierungen. Diese Norm gilt für Kneterzeugnisse und für das entsprechende Vormaterial (z. B. Walz- und Pressbarren oder Knetvormaterial für Schmiedestücke).
