Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für nichtaushärtende Dichtmittel (im weiteren als Dichtmittel bezeichnet) fest, die geeignet sind, metallene Gewindeverbindungen, wie sie in ISO 7-1 genormt sind, abzudichten. Diese Dichtmittel sind für den Einsatz in Kontakt mit Gasen der 1. Familie (Stadtgas), der 2. Familie (Erdgas) und der 3. Familie (Flüssiggas, ausgenommen Flüssiggas in der flüssigen Phase) und Heißwasser von Heizungsanlagen (Klasse A), für den Einsatz in Gasgeräten und deren Zusatzeinrichtungen (Klasse B), sowie in der Flüssiggaslagerung (Klasse C) nach Tabelle 1 geeignet. Anaerobe Dichtmittel werden in EN 751-1 und nichtaushärtende Dichtmittel in Form von PTFEBändern werden in EN 751-3 behandelt.
