Diese Europäische Norm legt Ziele für Entwässerungssysteme außerhalb von Gebäuden fest. Sie legt Funktionsanforderungen zum Erreichen dieser Ziele fest sowie Grundsätze für Strategie und Vorgehensweise in Bezug auf Planung, Bemessung, Bau, Betrieb, Unterhalt und Sanierung. Sie gilt für Entwässerungssysteme von dem Punkt an, an dem das Abwasser das Gebäude bzw. die Dachentwässerung verlässt oder in einen Straßenablauf fließt, bis zu dem Punkt, an dem das Abwasser in eine Kläranlage oder ein aufnehmendes Gewässer eingeleitet wird. Abwasserleitungen und -kanäle unterhalb von Gebäuden sind hierbei eingeschlossen, solange sie nicht Bestandteil der Gebäudeentwässerung sind.
