Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Abscheideranlagen für die Trennung von Leichtflüssigkeiten mineralischen Ursprungs von Schmutzwasser. Sie gilt nicht für die Behandlung von Fetten und Ölen pflanzlichen und tierischen Ursprungs sowie von Emulsionen und Lösungen. Diese Europäische Norm gibt eine Anleitung zur Wahl von Nenngrößen, sowie für den Einbau, Betrieb und Wartung von nach EN 858-1 hergestellten Leichtflüssigkeitsabscheidern. Sie gibt ferner eine Empfehlung hinsichtlich der Eignung von Reinigungsmitteln, soweit diese in die Abscheideranlagen eingeleitet werden.
