Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt die Bestimmung suspendierter Feststoffe in Rohwasser, Abwasser und Kläranlagenabläufen mittels Filtration über Glasfaserfilter. Die Nachweisgrenze des Verfahrens beträgt etwa 2 mg/l. Es wurde keine obere Grenze festgelegt. Wasserproben sind nicht immer stabil, daraus folgt, dass die Massenkonzentration an suspendierten Feststoffen von der Lagerzeit, der Transportart, dem pH-Wert und anderen Umständen abhängt. Ergebnise von nicht stabilen Proben sind mit Vorsicht zu interpretieren. Aufschwimmendes Öl und andere nicht mischbaren Stoffe stören die Bestimmung suspendierter Feststoffe. Proben mit mehr als 1000 mg/l an gelösten Feststoffen erfordern eine spezielle Behandlung, die in der Norm beschrieben ist.
