Der Anwendungsbereich ist auf die kommerzielle Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie begrenzt, bei der ein Antrag zur Genehmigung der Direktlieferung (DDA, en: Direct Delivery Authorization) für einen Herstellungsbetrieb gestellt wird, was eine Entsprechende Vereinbarung (AA, en: Appropriate Arrangement) zwischen dem Herstellungsbetrieb und dem Entwicklungsbetrieb (DO, en: Design Organisation) einschließt. Bei diesem Prozess ist der Entwicklungsbetrieb dafür verantwortlich, sicherzustellen, dass der Herstellungsbetrieb eine regelmäßige Aktualisierung der Konstruktions- und Lufttüchtigkeitsdaten erhält, während der Herstellungsbetrieb dafür verantwortlich ist, dass der hergestellte Artikel den genehmigten Konstruktions- und Lufttüchtigkeitsdaten entspricht. Der Herstellungsbetrieb ist dafür verantwortlich, die Freigabedokumentation zur Lufttüchtigkeit bereitzustellen.
