In den meisten modernen Industrieumgebungen werden Produktdaten mit Hilfe von Produktdatenmanagementsystemen (PDM-Systemen) gepflegt und verwaltet. Im Allgemeinen tun diese Systeme Folgendes: - Verwaltung der Nutzung der primären technischen Daten, die zum Beispiel in CAD-Modellen und Dokumenten enthalten sind; - Ermöglichen der Organisation primärer technischer Daten in Strukturen zur Darstellung der relevanten Produkte; Unterstützung der Definitions- und Wartungsprozesse für Produkte. Im Kontext der Normenreihe EN 9300 beschäftigen sich mehrere typspezifische Normen mit der LTA&R primärer technischer Daten (z. B. CAD, CAx, Dokumente), die von den relevanten technischen "Autorensystemen" generiert werden. Die Normenreihe EN 9300-2xx liefert Informationen zur LTA&R von Produktmanagementdaten für die relevanten Dokumente, Strukturen und Prozesse.
