Diese Europäische Norm legt die konstruktiven und funktionelle Eigenschaften sowie Prüfverfahren für WC-Kombinationen, Einstück-WCs und WC-Becken mit freiem Zulauf mit angeformtem Geruchverschluss zur persönlichen Hygiene, hergestellt aus Sanitärkeramik oder nichtrostendem Stahl, fest. Diese Europäische Norm gilt nicht für Hock-WCs, WC-Becken ohne angeformten Geruchverschluss sowie Spülkästen als Einzelgegenstände. Für WC-Becken mit freiem Zulauf werden die zugehörigen Spülkästen und Druckspüler durch andere Normen abgedeckt. Der Verweis auf Spülkästen in dieser Norm gilt nur für die Definitionen und die Anforderungen an das Spülvolumen. Für WC-Kombinationen und Einstück-WCs legt diese Norm zudem Konstruktions- und Leistungsmerkmale und Prüfverfahren für die zugeordneten Spülkästen mit Spülmechanismus, Füllventil und Überlauf fest. Dabei gilt diese Norm für Spülkästen, die für den Anschluss an die Trinkwasser-Installation in Gebäuden ausgelegt sind. Vor dem Einbau von WCs müssen EN 12056-2 und nationale Bestimmungen berücksichtigt werden.
