Dieser Teil der ISO 11148 gibt Sicherheitsanforderungen für handgehaltene nicht elektrisch betriebene Maschinen (im nachstehenden Text als "Schleifmaschinen für Schleifmittel" bezeichnet) zum Schleifen und Trennen mit Hilfe von Schleifmitteln an, die an sämtlichen Materialarten verwendet werden können. Die Schleifmaschinen für Schleifmittel können durch Druckluft, über Hydraulikflüssigkeit oder Verbrennungsmotoren betrieben werden und sind dazu bestimmt, durch eine Bedienungsperson verwendet und von dieser ohne oder mit einer Halterung, z. B. einer Ausgleichseinrichtung, mit einer oder beiden Händen gehalten zu werden.
