Dieses Dokument ist anzuwenden für alle Sonnenbrillen ohne Korrektionswirkung (mit Nullgläsern) sowie Aufsteckscheiben für den allgemeinen Gebrauch einschließlich dem Autofahren und dem Gebrauch im Straßenverkehr, bestimmt für den Schutz gegen Sonnenstrahlung. Anhang A gibt Informationen über die Verwendung von Sonnenschutzfiltern. Anforderungen an nicht montierte Sichtscheiben, die als Ersatz- oder Wechselfilter verwendet werden, sind in Anhang C gegeben. Dieses Dokument ist nicht anzuwenden für: a) Augenschutz gegen die Strahlung künstlicher Lichtquellen; b) Augenschutzgeräte für bestimmte Sportarten (z. B. Skibrillen oder andere Arten - siehe ISO 18527 [alle Teile]); c) Sonnenbrillen, die aus medizinischen Gründen zur Dämpfung von Sonnenstrahlung verschrieben wurden; d) Produkte, die für den direkten Blick in die Sonne, z. B. für die Beobachtung einer partiellen oder ringförmigen Sonnenfinsternis, vorgesehen sind, für die ISO 12312-2 gilt; e) Produkte für den beruflichen Augenschutz - siehe beispielsweise ISO 16321 (alle Teile).
