Diese Internationale Norm legt ein System für die Klassifizierung des Ventilator-Wirkungsgrads bei allen Ventilatortypen fest, die von einem Motor mit einer Nennleistung von mindestens 0,125 kW angetrieben werden. Dies bezieht sich nur auf angetriebene Ventilatoren, aber nicht auf das System (Endprodukt des Originalgeräteherstellers, also z. B. Kastenventilatoren und Dachventilatoren oder Lüftungsanlagen), in das diese eingebaut sind. In diesem Dokument wird eine Reihe von verschiedenen Verfahren zur Klassifizierung des Ventilator-Wirkungsgrads bzw. zur Anwendung der Mindestwirkungsgradgrenze (en: minimum efficiency limit; MEL) beschrieben. Diese Verfahren werden in den folgenden Dokumenten beschrieben: - ISO 12759-3; - dieses Dokument (ISO 12759-4); - ISO 12759-5; - ISO 12759-6. Es wird kein Verfahren zum Vergleich dieser Klassifizierungen und MELs beschrieben.
