Die Verfahren, die in dieser Internationalen Norm beschrieben werden, erfordern ein Digitalisierungsgerät, in dem das Objekt relativ zum optischen oder mechanischen Berührungssystem befestigt wird, und sind deshalb nicht auf handgehaltene Scannersysteme anwendbar. Diese Prüfverfahren gelten nicht für die Digitalisierung mit Röntgenaufnahmen oder mit Kernspintomografie (MRI).
