Diese Internationale Norm enthält Festlegungen für die Probengeometrie und das Verfahren für die Scherzugprüfung von Einpunktverbindungen an ein- und mehrlagigen Proben bis zu einer Dicke eines einzelnen Bleches von 4,5 mm fest. Der Begriff Blech, so wie er in dieser Internationalen Norm verwendet wird, umfasst extrudierte Werkstoffe und Gusswerkstoffe. Das Ziel der Scherzugprüfung ist, die mechanischen Kennwerte und die Versagensarten der mit unterschiedlichen Verfahren hergestellten Verbindungen zu bestimmen. Diese Norm soll nicht im Hochbau angewendet werden, wie z. B. für Bauten aus Metall und Stahl-konstruktionen, die durch andere anwendbare Normen abgedeckt werden.
