Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Probenahme von Kolophonium und Kolophoniumderivaten aus - Fässern, - dem geschmolzenen/flüssigen Harz, - Spänen, Pellets oder Pastillen und zur Probenvorbereitung für die Messung der Farbzahl fest. Das Verfahren für die Messung der Farbzahl ist in anderen Normen festgelegt. Die Farbzahl von Kolophonium kann mit unverdünntem oder gelöstem Kolophonium gemessen werden. Die beiden am häufigsten verwendeten Verfahren zur Messung der Farbzahl sind die nach der USDA-Skala und der Gardner-Farbskala. Anhang A enthält Informationen über die Zusammenhänge dieser beiden Skalen.
