Dieses Dokument legt die Ermittlung der Molmassenverteilung und der Molmassenmittelwerte Mn (Zahlenmittel) und Mw (Gewichtsmittel) von in Tetrahydrofuran (THF) löslichen Polymeren durch Gelpermeationschromatographie (GPC) fest. Auf Grund spezifischer Wechselwirkungen (z. B. Adsorption) in dem System aus Probe/Elutionsmittel/Trennmaterial ist es möglich, dass dieses Verfahren trotz guter Wiederholbarkeit der resultierenden Chromatogramme auf einzelne Polymere nicht angewandt werden kann. Die in diesem Dokument festgelegten Bedingungen sind nicht anwendbar bei GPC Analysen von Polymerproben mit Mw-Werten größer 10^(6) g/mol und/oder von Polymeren, deren Elutionsgrenzen außerhalb des Kalibrierbereiches liegen. Dieses Dokument umfasst keine Korrekturverfahren (z. B. Elimination der Peakverbreiterung). Wenn absolute Molmassenwerte benötigt werden, kann auf ein Absolutverfahren (z. B. Membranosmometrie für Mn oder Lichtstreuung für Mw) zurückgegriffen werden.
